CANTON, Ohio (WJW) -- In rescuing a dog that refused to come down from the roof of its home on Friday morning, Canton firefighters employed some sophisticated tools: a ladder truck and a kielbasa sausage.

Firefighters got the call to the home in the 700 block of Gobel Avenue Northeast just before noon, according to a news release.

The dog had wandered out onto the roof of the 2 1/2-story home and "refused to be coaxed back in the window," the release reads.

When firefighters showed up, the dog -- aptly named Lucky -- "wagged intently at the firefighters," as if it knew help had arrived, Fire Chief Steve Henderson wrote.

Firefighters brought the leashed Lucky back to its owner on terra firma, who had a hearty "thank you" for the responders.
