HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. (WJW) -- An investigation into the deaths of two men and their dogs is ongoing after they never came back from a hunting trip, the Highlands County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Officials said they believe the deaths were caused by a lightning strike, but the medical examiner has not finished an autopsy.
Sheriff's deputies were called to Rucks Dairy Road, located in the southeast part of the county, after Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers located the missing men's car parked there. A search then led to the men and their two hunting dogs being found dead in a levee.
