GOSHEN, Ind. (WNDU) - The trial for the Elkhart man who is charged with murdering a sex offender who allegedly assaulted one of his relatives has been postponed.
35-year-old Nicholas Stanley was originally scheduled to go on trial on Oct. 6 , but according to our reporting partners at The Goshen News , he asked the judge for a continuance.
The judge then rescheduled Stanley’s trial for March 2, 2026.
Stanley is accused of killing 35-year-old Allen Cogswell back on June 24 at the Daylite Inn on Cassopolis Street .
Police later confirmed that Cogswell was a sex offender who had been released from prison in May after serving six and a half years for child molestation. According to court records, Stanley is related to a victim in that case.
The Goshen News says Stanley has a coupl
