A late-night house fire on Thursday claimed the life of a 5-year-old in Mobile.
At approximately 11:47 p.m. Thursday, Mobile Fire-Rescue responded to the 1500 block of Sharon Drive in reference to a residential house fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed a home in flames.
Two children were home alone at the time of the fire.
The 12-year-old was woken up by a smoke alarm and the smell of smoke, according to a recent release.
The 12-year-old was able to make it out of the home safely, but told firefighters his 5-year-old brother was still inside, and he was unable to get to him due to the spreading fire.
Firefighters were able to remove the 5-year-old from the home, and he was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to the release.
