Des Moines Public Schools confirms that Superintendent Ian Roberts has been detained by federal immigration officials.

DMPS says it has not confirmed any information as to why Roberts is being detained by ICE.

Earlier on Friday, sister station KCCI was on the scene of a search being conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement , and DMPS public safety vehicles were present. It is not immediately clear if the two incidents are connected.

DMPS School Board President Jackie Norris said that Associate Superintendent Matt Smith will immediately step in as interim superintendent until further notice.
