After a surprise announcement this summer that the Leelanau Conservancy had launched an $8 million campaign to reimagine the defunct Sugar Loaf ski resort into a new outdoor adventure space for the public, the group is celebrating achieving its big goal.
“Summit Reached,” the conservancy posted today on its social media page, with a message thanking donors.
“With the support of over a thousand donors and a generous land gift from the current owner, the Leelanau Conservancy has raised $8 million to protect and restore Sugar Loaf.
“285 acres will be permanently preserved and, beginning in spring 2026, transformed into a public natural area for generations to come.
“Thank you for making this possible! The future of Sugar Loaf begins now."
