At least three Pittsburgh-area Starbucks are among the hundreds of locations in the U.S. and Canada the company plans to shutter.
On Thursday, Brian Niccol, Starbucks chairman and chief executive officer, announced plans to reduce the number of open coffeehouses it operates in North America by about 1% in fiscal year 2025. He described the change in a blog post on the company’s website.
The move would bring the total number of Starbucks locations across the U.S. and Canada down to 18,300. The latest quarterly earning report by the company lists a North American store count of 18,734.
While the company has not released an official list of the stores that will be closed, the Starbucks app now shows Pittsburgh-area locations that are listed as “closed” every day beginning on Sunday.
