Hennepin County homeowners can prepare to pay about $100 more in property taxes next year.
On Thursday, Hennepin County commissioners approved a 7.79% tax levy increase, generating an extra $81.5 million compared to last year.
That means owners of a median-value home appraised at $400,900 will pay about $125 more than last year, according to reporting by KSTP.
Officials say the increase will cover a $33.8 million in additional costs for public safety departments, a $21 million increase in debt service, and funding for the 2026 elections. Property taxes make up approximately 36% of the county’s budget.
County officials say the proposed $3.09 billion 2026 budget covers "current uncertainties from state and federal funding while continuing investments in communities, infrastructure and em
