A former federal grand juror who leaked information about the investigation into the state’s handling of Karen Read’s murder case and an unrelated Massachusetts State Police probe “believed that the information would remain private,” according to her lawyer.
Jessica Leslie, 34, of Dracut, leaked information about the secret grand jury proceedings to one person, her attorney, Keith Halpern, wrote in a sentencing memorandum filed Thursday in US District Court in Boston.
“She should have recognized that the violation of grand jury secrecy can cause serious harm to people and to the justice system, but she didn’t,“ Halpern wrote. ”She does understand this now, and her remorse is genuine.”
Leslie pleaded guilty to criminal contempt last month and is slated to be sentenced Oct. 2 by US Dist
