What began in a garage on top of the Niagara Escarpment in Grimsby eight years ago has grown into a more than $10-million, 650-square-metre winemaking operation.

Commisso Estate Winery unofficially opened its new winemaking facility on Friday.

“Commisso is a recognizable name, and people are seeing us and hearing us for not only wine, but food and the events we do,” said Jordan Glancie, sales and marketing manager at the winery. He said the new building includes five wine vats, a kitchen, restaurant, wine shop and space for weddings and other gatherings.

“We are technically Grimsby’s only winery.”

Glancie said work on the new eco-friendly facility began in 2022.
