Former President Barack Obama opened up about the personal challenges he faced in his marriage after leaving the White House, saying he had to “dig” himself “out of [a] hole” with wife Michelle Obama, according to the Daily Mail.

“I was digging myself out of the hole I found myself with Michelle,” Obama said at the O2 Arena in London on Wednesday, in a conversation with historian David Olusoga. “Now I’m at about level ground,” he added.

The remarks come amid renewed public curiosity about the couple’s relationship since Obama completed two terms in office from 2009 to 2017, according to Page Six.

Sources have claimed she had been “checked out” of political life in Washington since the Obamas left office in 2017.
