Fewer youth are returning to Sarnia and Petrolia emergency departments for mental health help, the latest Bluewater Health data shows.

That’s a good thing, suggesting more are getting follow-up care through community agencies like the two-year-old Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO) branch in downtown Sarnia .

The hospital’s most recent data shows 9.6 per cent of youth under 25 years old who visited the hospital for mental health reasons were, between January and March, returned for similar reasons within 30 days.

There’ve been some gaps in tracking that data in the aftermath of a cyberattack about two years ago, but the 30-day readmission figure was about 24 per cent between April and June 2024, the most recent report to Bluewater Health’s board of directors show
