Some television shows collapse under their own ambition, or even their own early success. Shows that become way bigger than expected , that once sparked audience intrigue ,can quickly lose shape. What begins as bold and imaginative often becomes grouped in lists of the most disappointing shows, with later seasons grasping at straws to deliver on its promise.

The result is not always a disaster, but shows that don't know when to stop are almost always a dilution of what made the show great in the first place. Many of the most ambitious shows on this list could have served better as miniseries with no bad episodes , remembered as concise, enduring achievements, instead of balloons bloated with meaningless air until they popped.
