Lacombe County has issued a fire restriction due to dry, windy conditions and little chance of rain in the forecast.

The restriction took effect immediately and will remain in place until conditions improve. Officials say all active fire permits have been cancelled, and no new permits will be approved. Fires that fall under the restriction must also be extinguished.

The county warns the restriction could be upgraded to a fire ban at any time.

At this time, recreation fires are still permitted if they are contained in a metal, brick, or rock fire ring and meet county bylaw requirements. Portable propane fire pits, propane or gas stoves and barbecues, and catalytic or infrared-style heaters are also allowed.
