SIOUX LOOKOUT — One person is dead following a collision on Vermillion River Road Friday morning.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police Northwest unit, a single vehicle was involved in the fatal collision.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene, said police.

The crash occurred near Highway 516 east of Sioux Lookout. The OPP is asking the public to avoid the area.

OPP officers are on the scene and an investigation is ongoing.

According to a social media post from the OPP, Vermillion River Road was still closed as of 4 p.m. Friday and the closure is expected to be lengthy.
