Board of Aldermen President David Allaire signaled Friday that the standoff over the recreation department might be nearing an end.

The short version — way back in March, Mayor Michael Doenges said he would not reappoint Recreation Superintendent Kim Peters. He did not say with whom he would replace her. In the meantime, Peters' numerous supporters objected frequently and loudly to the move and the aldermen exercised a charter provision allowing them to take appointments to long-vacant positions into their own hands, voting by a veto-proof majority to reinstate Peters.
