Sevier County captured a share of the District Two 3-A volleyball championship with a 3-1 victory over West Thursday afternoon at Michael R. Reed Gymnasium.

The Bearettes finished district play at 8-2 to tie Heritage for the title but Heritage will be the top seed in the tournament because of the tiebreaker.

Sevier improved to 19-5 overall with a 25-19, 25-8, 23-25, 25-19 decision.

West slipped to 5-9 for the season and closed district play at 4-6 which will place the Lady Trojans as the fourth seed. East will be seeded third, Jefferson County fifth and Cocke County sixth when the tourney starts on October 6.

Millie Van Rensburg put on a powerful hitting performance to lead the Bearettes. Van Rensburg hammered down 23 kills, served three aces and blocked a shot.
