A new gas power plant in Baytown from NRG Energy will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer money as part of a loan from the state, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Friday.
NRG Energy will receive a $562 million loan to build a 721-megawatt plant, totaling about $936 million in costs, to begin generating power by summer 2028. The energy developed at the plant will go toward the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which operates the power grid serving most of the state.
