COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has declared as a state of emergency in South Carolina as the state gets ready for a potential encounter with a tropical system next week.
McMaster issued an executive order around 5 p.m. Friday in preparation for what is now known as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine. The storm is eventually expected to become Imelda once it strengthens into a tropical storm, and potentially, a hurricane.
McMaster is set to hold a briefing at 2 p.m. Saturday giving an update on the state's response.
