DALLAS — Robert Roberson, the Texas father convicted of killing his 2-year-old daughter who was diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome, is now scheduled to be executed on Oct. 16.
Roberson was one day away from being executed last year when the Texas Supreme Court delayed it after a bipartisan group of Texas House lawmakers joined together to push for a new trial. That effort was loud, public and even set off a battle with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who wants to push ahead with the execution.
This year, though, has been much different. Now only weeks away from his execution date, there’s been few, if any, public statements by the group of lawmakers supporting Roberson.
We asked one of those lawmakers, state Rep. Rhetta Bowers, D-District 113, why we haven’t heard from that group.
