COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (CMZoo) announced the death of Bean, the zoo’s Hoffman’s two-toed sloth.

CMZoo said 6-year-old Bean passed away on Wednesday after a short illness. The Zoo said Bean had lost her appetite and was seeming ‘off,’ so she was taken to the veterinary hospital.

A visit to the vet hospital reportedly revealed Bean had kidney disease.

The zoo said her kidney levels had improved, but that evening Bean unexpectedly passed away.

A necropsy conducted on Thursday revealed that Bean also had significant heart disease, which CMZoo said did not show heart-specific symptoms that would have led to heart testing.

According to CMZoo, Bean was born on May 14, 2019, and was the first sloth born at the zoo in 15 years.
