TAPPAHANNOCK, Va. (WWBT) - Money problems are affecting the staff and teachers at Essex County Public Schools.
On Friday, employees checked their bank accounts on payday only to find they weren’t paid. As a result, some of them walked out.
“Teachers are paid to do a job, just like you go to work to do a job, so you expect to get paid to do a job. So, by not getting paid and having to deal with kids all day long, it’s not their fault that they’re leaving,” said Tara Holmes, a parent. “It’s also the accountability to the county to make sure that the teachers don’t do this.”
By Friday afternoon, employees started receiving their checks; however, depending on their bank, some will have to wait until Monday.
