LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Lebanon Police Department is putting a greater emphasis on mental health and easing the burden on officers.

News 2 sat down with the department's only mental health co-responder who is now working full-time and responds to a few dozen calls a month.

"The officers will come and get me, and then I'll just ride with that officer for the day," Courtney Howard, mental health co-responder for LPD, said.

News 2 watched body camera footage of Howard responding to crisis situations with officers, but we did not air the interactions in order to protect the identities of those involved.

"A lot of officers are responding to mental health calls on a daily basis," Howard stated.

It was a need law enforcement recognized in the Lebanon community.
