KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Another major highway in Knoxville will be closing for a weekend.
Portions of northbound lanes on Alcoa Highway will be closed for construction beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 between John Sevier Highway and UT Medical Center.
TDOT’s Mark Nagi said the closure is necessary to allow crews to blast, scale and remove rock outcroppings on the roadway’s adjacent slope.
“The contractor has to do a lot of blasting in this area,” Nagi said. “There is a massive amount of rock on the nearby slope, and we’re trying to make sure that motorists are safe and that the contractor is safe as well. They’re workers, so we need to make sure we have that complete closure in place.”
