ASHTABULA, Ohio (WJW) - Law enforcement helped rescue a man and a 3-year-old child who went overboard from a boat on Lake Erie on Friday.

According to the Ashtabula Police Department, a 911 caller told dispatchers that the man and the child had gone overboard about seven miles from shore. The caller, who was still in the boat, said they lost sight of them.

Ashtabula police officers, firefighters, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, a dive team and EMS crews all responded the scene. The U.S. Coast Guard also dispatched a helicopter over the lake.

After more than an hour of searching, which included the use of several drones, the Ashtabula Fire Department was able to find the victims seven to eight miles from shore in 62-feet-deep water.
