WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Students at Saint Joseph's School in West Warwick participated in a challenge Friday to support local children and firefighters living with cancer.

The students ran as many laps as they could while raising money for the 76 Foundation, a nonprofit organization created by Smithfield firefighter Craig Garrett.

Garrett was the father of two St. Joseph’s students and husband of the school's nurse. He passed away on April 4, 2024, after nearly seven years of living with Desmoplastic small round cell tumor — a rare and aggressive form of cancer that often originates in the abdomen.

Garrett's son Charlie said the foundation meant everything to him.
