A new $6.1 million special needs dental clinic has officially opened in Salter Point.
The clinic provides specialised care for people who experience difficulties accessing mainstream oral care services because of developmental, intellectual or physical disabilities.
The State recognised some people faced barriers when it came to visiting standard dental surgeries, such as sitting in a dentist’s chair, difficulties swallowing, and an inability to follow instructions.
The building is a fully accessible one-storey building and is close to public transport.
Patients can also be assessed from their vehicle if required, and the design has a safe outdoor area as an alternative waiting area for people who may feel dysregulated indoors.
