Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Friday blamed ‘off-the-mark’ predictions made by the IMD for floods in the state even as he fired a salvo at the Opposition for playing politics on the deluge instead of helping the state.
Winding up the discussion on ‘Rehabilitation of Punjab’ resolution on the first day of the special session, Mann said that all the forecasts made by the IMD were irrelevant and far from the truth.
As an example, he mentioned that the prediction for August 17 was 9 mm of rain, whereas actual rainfall reached 185.5 mm — representing an increase of 1,961 per cent. On August 25, state recorded 676 per cent more rainfall than predicted rainfall, and on August 26, it was 906 per cent in excess. He said this raised serious question marks over IMD’s credibility.
