HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Fifth Third Bank celebrated the opening of its newest Huntsville branch Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5901-B University Drive NW.

The branch opening is part of Fifth Third’s expansion strategy announced in late 2024. The Cincinnati-based bank plans to open 200 new retail locations by 2028, with a focus on fast-growing Southeast markets. By then, the company expects about half of its branches will be located in the region.

The Mid City Huntsville branch is the first of 15 financial centers planned across Alabama in the next three years — 10 in Huntsville and five in Birmingham. Executives said the expansion aims to strengthen the bank’s presence and increase its market share in both cities.
