MINDEN, La. -- A hearing is set for one of two fired Minden police officers who want their jobs back.

The Minden Fire and Police Civil Service Board will meet at noon Oct. 9 at City Hall to consider an appeal from former Lt. Chris Hammontree.

The Minden City Council fired Hammontree, a 16-year veteran of the force, in August on the recommendation of Police Chief Jared McIver. His dismissal was for violation of the department's policy regarding the dispatch of tow trucks.

The second former officer, Lt. Jason Smith, also is appealing his firing by the City Council in late August. An Oct. 16 date was set; however, it's been postponed.
