ARIMO — A local man who opened fire on the town’s mayor and a sheriff’s deputy was taken into custody Thursday evening, ending an eight-hour standoff that resulted in evacuations and road closures but fortunately no injuries.
Brandon Hess, 47, of Arimo, unleashed gunfire around 11 a.m. Thursday when Mayor Lonnie Gunter and a Bannock County deputy arrived at his residence on the 300 block of High Street to discuss an ordinance issue, the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office reported. Bullets struck the mayor’s vehicle, but no one was injured in the attack, authorities said.
