CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. –Cabell County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Spears has declined to pursue criminal charges in connection to the death of teenager earlier this year that involved Huntington police officers.

Jayden Michael Arthurs, 19, was killed on March 15, 2025 following a police pursuit.

Spears declined to press charges against Patrol Officer Jonathan Drake, after a through investigation was done by West Virginia State Review and an independent review of the evidence.

Officer Drake had attempted to conduct a traffic stop by following Mr. Arthurs’ truck into a restaurant parking lot, however the Arthurs speed away, and drove down 5th Avenue recklessly at some points exceeding 70 miles per hour, which prompted the pursuit.
