BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, Ohio — Northeast Ohio communities honored a fallen hero in a permanent way Friday as the street where Officer Jacob Derbin grew up was renamed in his memory on Belmont Drive, right on the border of Brooklyn Heights and Seven Hills.
Derbin, 23, was shot and killed in the line of duty on May 11, 2024, while responding to a call. After Friday's ceremony, his childhood street in Brooklyn Heights bears his name—a tribute his mother, Dawn Derbin, calls both comforting and painful.
"It's comforting and is painful. It's the same street he never came home," Dawn said.
The street holds a lifetime of memories for the Derbin family.
