DALLAS — Skillman Southwestern Library carries more than just books.

“This is a library that really serves the whole community,” said Jonathan Harper of Skillman Southwestern Friends Group. “You see families with young children. You see a lot of elderly residents coming to check out books and DVDs. You even see, especially in the summer, a lot of homeless residents who come in here not to stir up any trouble but just to take a nap and get out of the heat.”

Just about every week, Harper visits the library. However, that is changing because it's scheduled to close for good on Saturday.

The closure comes after the Dallas City Council passed a $5.2 billion budget with almost two-thirds going towards police and firefighters.
