Once a year, Brockville proudly takes its place as a key stop on a Run to Remember.

That’s the name given to the annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run, which is happening for the 21st time this weekend to raise awareness of, and pay tribute to, police and peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, and the suffering of their families.

Organizers said more than 300 law enforcement professionals are taking part in this year’s run.

It began Thursday at the Ontario Police Memorial at Queen’s Park, and after an overnight stop in Brockville, runners were to head to Ottawa Saturday, ahead of the Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Service honouring fallen officers.

In keeping with local tradition, the 1000 Islands Steel Band accompanied the run
