HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas (KWTX) - The City of Harker Heights is welcoming a new Chief of Police Today.

Chief Sonja Clay is officially taking the job as head of the Harker Heights Police Department.

She has spent more than 2-decades working her way up the ranks in the department with experience in everything from patrol to community outreach and criminal investigation.

Making it all the way to the top wasn’t something she had initially planned for.

“As a matter of fact, I was telling my husband, if someone had told me 22-years-ago that I was going to be chief of police in about 22-years, I would have laughed at them and said you’re out of your mind, but here we are,” said Cheif Clay.
