ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office says someone is posing as a deputy to steal money from people over the phone.
Investigators said multiple people have reported getting the same call this week.
When victims answer the phone, someone on the other end claims to be a Cobb deputy with a warrant out for their arrest.
The scammer says they can make the warrant disappear if the person sends them money right away or meets them somewhere to drop the money off.
“We are not going to tell you we have a warrant. We’re just going to come to your door and knock, or depending on the warrant, we may bust down the front door. But we are not going to call and say, ‘Hey, we’ve got a warrant. How about paying us this much money and we’ll get rid of it?’” said Major Steven
