In our area, the Great River Road is one that follows the Mississippi River through ten states for 3,000 miles.
Nearly 100 museums and historic sites are part of the Great River Road — stretching from Lake Itasca to the Gulf.
The Environmental Learning Center in Muscatine is one of the stops and an opportunity to learn about the Mississippi River and the plants and animals living around it.
“This is the tiger salamander. We have quite a few ambassador animals here at the Environmental Learning Center. We use them for education — to take and share with kids and people,” said Katie Hammond, director of the Muscatine County Conservation Board, while holding Tubbs, one of the animals at
