When Kaylee Sander was watching the Paris Olympics, she thought of one sport that was missing — shearing.

The 16-year-old is from Katanning in Western Australia, home of the largest undercover sheep saleyards in the Southern Hemisphere.

In the nearby town of Darkan earlier this year, Alexia Phillips broke the female world record for the most merino ewes shorn in eight hours, taking 80 seconds on average per animal to reach a total of 367 sheep.

Kaylee said she had always enjoyed spending time on the farm.

"Since I was a little girl I've always liked coming out to my grandparents' farm," she said.

"I loved helping out and making a nuisance of myself."
