A disturbance in the tropics -- now known as Invest 94L -- is already causing some cancellations.
As of 2 p.m. Friday, a low pressure system was forming near eastern Cuba and the southeastern Bahamas. Data from the National Hurricane Center shows the storm has a 90% chance of developing over the next 48 hours. If that happens, it would become Tropical Storm Imelda.
While it's too early to predict exactly where the storm could make landfall, officials across the Wilmington area are urging residents to prepare now. By Friday afternoon, some schools were already announcing schedule changes due to the threat of inclement weather.
