MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A serial killer and rapist connected to crimes in Memphis and Dyersburg has been identified as a suspect in the 1991 unsolved murders of four teenage girls at a yogurt shop in Austin, Texas.

In a statement, Austin police said they had made a “significant breakthrough” and that DNA tests have led investigators to Robert Eugene Brashers.

Brashers committed suicide in 1999, but through DNA testing was also linked to the murder of a 28-year-old woman in South Carolina in 1990, and the rape of a teenage girl in Memphis seven years later.

MPD said Brashers entered a home, bound and tied up four individuals, and raped a 14-year-old girl before he went on to commit a double homicide in Missouri.
