While John Curtis had multiple miscues in Friday night’s District 9-5A opener against Rummel at the Shrine on Airline, the Patriots engineered a nearly 11-minute drive in the fourth quarter to run out the clock and take home a 21-19 win against the Raiders.
Rummel (2-2) pulled within 21-19 after Raiders quarterback Tyler Holden found Kirby Cade alone in the end zone on a 21-yard touchdown pass with 11:56 left in the final quarter. The sophomore wide receiver led Rummel in receiving with four catches for 45 yards and the score.
That’s when the Patriots put the game away with a 79-yard drive on 19 plays. Quarterback London Padgett found Darryck Horton for 16 yards on fourth down to the 1-yard line. Curtis (3-0) then ran the clock out.
