The Government of India has notified that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is now responsible for granting equivalence to Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) certificates awarded by various School Education Boards in India. This responsibility pertains to student admissions to higher education institutions and employment under the Central and State Governments and Union Territories.
The Ministry of Education announced that this notification was published in the e-Gazette on 6th September 2025 by the Department of School Education and Literacy.
