PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating a hit-and-run in Mayfair that left a woman in critical condition on Friday night.

Police said the driver was under the influence when he was traveling down Ryan Avenue just before 8 p.m. and struck the woman.

While she was rushed to the hospital, detectives remained at the scene to collect evidence, including the victim's shoes and walker, that were in the middle of the road.

A man who works nearby said it's devastating to know the driver just left the victim, and he prays she survives.

"That's terrible. That's terrible," said Thommie Hampton from West Philadelphia. "Honestly, it's sick because he could have stopped, and I don't think that was right. Life is precious, and people just don't care about life no more."
