ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

After four years of construction and renovation, the University of New Mexico Hospital has opened its Critical Care Tower, aiming to improve health care services.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham expressed hope that the expansion will attract more providers and doctors.

"These are important, valuable building blocks for families' well-being in this state," she said.

The expansion includes 192 beds, with 96 being intensive care unit beds, a new helipad, and several new operating rooms with state-of-the-art equipment to help serve more people and bring in more help.

"This additional space means we have more clinical care being delivered, so we can accommodate more students and grow the population in our schools and then our workforce," UNMH CEO Kate Becker said.
