MONO COUNTY, Calif. (KOLO) - Three target shooters from Southern California were arrested and booked into jail on Friday, Sept. 26, after Mono County Sheriff’s Office deputies allegedly found them shooting north of the Parker Lake Trail in June Lake, according to a 7 p.m. agency Facebook post.

Responding deputies feared an active shooter and immediately moved toward the sound of fire, the post said.

When deputies found the target shooters north of the trail, they stopped and complied with law enforcement, the post said.

They were each charged with willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.

The first incident was initially reported to Mono County dispatch at 1:50 p.m. from hikers that said shots were being fired in their direction.
