Moving from his long-time home of Wagga Wagga to Tamworth this year was "the hardest decision of my life", Tristan Dickson said.

The 29-year-old left behind his friends and family for a new start in the North West.

But throughout the year, his choice was slowly but surely vindicated - no more so than tonight.

At the Group 4 presentation night held at Wests Diggers, the North Tamworth Bears halfback was named the First Grade Player of the Year - narrowly edging out Moree's Alex Lawrence in second.

"[The move] has paid off in the end," Dickson said.

"It makes me feel better about how I've changed as a person on and off the field. Getting Player of the Year is a big effort ... it makes me feel like I've made the right decision."
