New Delhi: Indian para archer Sheetal Devi created history by clinching an elusive gold medal at the Para World Archery Championships 2025 on Saturday, September 27. The armless Indian archer defeated Turkiye’s world No.1 Oznur Cure Girdi 146-143 in the final to bag a gold medal in the women’s compound individual category.

The 18-year-old, who won a bronze medal in the mixed team event in the Paris Paralympics last year, converted her silver medal from the last edition of the Para World Archery Championships to gold this year. Sheetal, who shoots with the help of her feet and chin, is the only armless archer in the competition and also the only active female archer who competes without arms.
