A local tree planting event this fall is setting the stage for the future transformation of Steinbach’s landfill into parkland.

On Sunday, October 5, starting at 1 p.m., volunteers will gather at the Steinbach Landfill Facility for TD Tree Days, an annual tree-planting initiative sponsored by TD Bank.

Certified arborist and forestry specialist Ken Fosty says about 300 trees will be planted in just over an hour.

“The trees that we’re planting will provide multiple benefits, including shade, shelter, wildlife habitat, wildlife corridors, aesthetic beauty, as well as clean air."
