AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Saturday, there will be live entertainment alongside a free health screening at the Fiesta de Salud Health Fair.

The annual event is hosted by both the city of Austin as well as Austin Public Health (APH). It's a chance for communities to get healthier while also having an emphasis on Hispanic/Latino culture, according to organizers.

The event begins at 11 a.m. and will run until 2 p.m. at the Pan Am Rec Center.

According to APH's 2023 Critical Health Indicators report, there were health disparities facing certain populations.

APH said Black and Hispanic residents were almost two times more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than white residents, and three times more likely to die of diabetes-related complications. Additionally, Black residents were 57% more likely
